Everything about Luzula totally explainedLuzula ( Wood-rush) is a genus of about 80 species of flowering plants the family Juncaceae, with a cosmopolitan distribution, the highest species diversity being in temperate Asia and Europe.
The species are perennial (rarely annual) plants growing 20-80 cm tall, with linear grass-like leaves.
Luzula species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Smoky Wainscot and case-bearers of the genus Coleophora including C. antennariella (feeds exclusively on L. pilosa), C. biforis (feeds exclusively on Luzula), C. glaucicolella, C. leucapennis (feeds exclusively on Luzula), C. otidipennella (feeds exclusively on Luzula) and C. sylvaticella (feeds exclusively on L. sylvatica).
